Description

This will be a hollow building workshop, mostly focused on building with coils and pinch, and then slab when applicable. We will cover greenware surface treatments (texture, underglaze, slip) and if time permits, touch on glazing and/or testing glazes. Participants can access a broad range of subject material.

COURSE OUTLINE

Day 1 (8/8/2025) 3:00 - 7:00 pm: Slide show including Emily's work, process, surface design and finishing ideas. Demonstration of making a maquette (small, three-dimensional scale model). Workshop participants have time to start making their own maquettes and Emily will take the opportunity to check in with each person about their project ideas.

Day 2 (8/9/2025) 10:00 am - 4:00 pm: Emily will begin with a longer demonstration, then work with participants on their projects.

Day 3 (8/10/2025) 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Continue with the projects.

MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

A list of recommended supplies will be sent to participants ahead of the workshop.

Students can purchase stoneware during the class. Students who will fire their piece at their home studio may use their own clay. Only clay purchased at Wesleyan Potters may be fired in our studio kilns.
