Description
Sculpture Workshop: Exploration in Vessel Construction
After exploring examples of historical vessels students will develop their own forms through recreations, reinterpretations, and new ideas. Emily's latest vessels are inspired by historical vessels and floral inspiraitons from her garden. The primary building technique is coiling with incorporation of slabs and pinch pots as appropriate. Surface treatments and glazing techniques will be explored.
Because clay melts at different temperatures, only pots made in our studio with clay supplied by the Pottery may be fired in our kilns.
About the Artist
Emily Albee is a former Studio Manager at Wesleyan Potters and currently teaches ceramics and sculpture at the University of Connecticut. Her recent work draws from sustained attention to her home garden, where she follows plants through cycles of emergence, flowering, and decay. Through vessel-making, she abstracts botanical forms to create objects that quietly echo the body through gesture and containment, approaching clay as an extension of flesh and soil.
