Description
Explore additive and subtractive techniques to create texture, depth, movement, and meaning by building up, sculpting and carving away clay. Then we will apply some or all introduced techniques to a relief sculpture or a supplied vessel brough in by the participant. We will apply both realitic and abstract ideas.
In need of inspiration? Check out these artists: Auguste Rodin, Donatello, and Louise Nevelson.
What to Bring:
- Pallete Paper - 2 sheets 12x14
- 2 slabs 10"x10" that's 1/2" thick (Bring 2 slabs if you aren't bringing in a piece of your own work (mug, vase, plate, etc.)
- Clay tools (Scorer, needle tool, carving tools, rib, small container of slip)
- Paintbrushes for smoothing 1/4", 1/2"
- Carving tools
- (2) 1 lb balls of clay
- 3 reference images you would like to use as inspiration
Instructor will bring in additional reference images for inspiration
Most important! Bring an open mind and a smile. This will be a wonderful opportunity to explore and create a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
