Description
Discover the beauty of imperfection through the art of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in the weathered, the handmade, and the wonderfully imperfect. In this inspiring mixed-media workshop, students will use torn washi paper, handmade papers with deckled edges, natural fibers, ink, and a variety of found and decorative materials to create expressive collage art.
Students will complete four 6" × 6" collages using an eclectic assortment of materials, including stencils, pens, trims, vintage book pages, stamps, leaves, fabric scraps, needle and thread, used tea bags, and more. The emphasis is on exploration, texture, and personal expression... there are no mistakes, only creative discoveries.
Students are encouraged to bring meaningful mementos, such as old photographs, letters, handwritten notes, or other paper ephemera they'd like to incorporate into their artwork, making each collage a unique reflection of their own story.
