Explore the artistry and endless possibilities of the humble spoon in this creative metalsmithing workshop. From delicate baby spoons and elegant teaspoons to distinctive serving spoons, students will design and fabricate a variety of functional and sculptural pieces while experimenting with form, texture, and materials.

Using a selection of metals, you'll shape and form the bowls of your spoons before pairing them with handles made from nearly any material you can imagine. Metal, wood, faux bone, and found objects are just a few of the possibilities. Students will also learn to create a one-piece, fold-formed spoon that requires no soldering—a fascinating technique that transforms a single sheet of metal into a finished utensil.

This workshop is ideal for students who have completed at least one metalsmithing jewelry class and are ready to expand their fabrication skills through playful exploration and creative problem-solving.

Students are encouraged to bring favorite tools or equipment they'd like to learn more about, as well as any materials they wish to incorporate into their work. Found objects, reclaimed materials, and unexpected treasures are all welcome... after all, almost any material can find new life in an expressive, handcrafted spoon.
