Description
Pysanky: Traditional Ukrainian Eggshell Decorating with Joyce Frederick
An eggshell becomes a canvas... discover the colors, patterns, and possibilities of pysanky! These traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs are decorated using a wax-resist process, with designs drawn in beeswax and colors revealed through successive layers of wax and dye.
Join Joyce Frederick to learn this centuries-old folk art and create your own pysanka using a special tool called a kistka, beeswax, and dyes. Follow a traditional Ukrainian design or explore one of your own as Joyce guides you step by step through the process.

About the Instructor: Joyce Frederick has been part of the Wesleyan Potters community as a pottery and weaving student for fourteen years. A recently retired first-grade teacher who minored in art, she traces her love of handcrafts to learning to knit with her grandmother at age seven. She has taught children and adults a wide range of crafts, including quilting, sewing, calligraphy, and cake decorating. Joyce discovered pysanky in a workshop more than forty years ago and has been hooked ever since!
