Description

A pysanka is a Ukranian Easter egg decorated with traditional Ukranian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The designs are not painted on, but drawn with beeswax. Dye is applied and then the color is covered with more wax. Multiple colors are added similar to batik. In this workshop you will learn to make your own pysanka using a special tool, a kitska, beeswax and dye. We will be veering away from the traditional deisgns and making Halloween and Christmas designs. Join me to learn this centuries old art!

Students, please bring: Pencils, an old terry cloth dish towel (this will get stained), thin disposable gloves (if desired), small notebook or paper, a short taper candle in a sturdy candleholder (no taller than 6").
