Description

Hand building Basics:

   Learn about the fundamental skills to hand building with clay. Students will start with simple projects using pinch methods, coil building, and slab construction to build functional and sculptural objects before planning out projects independently. Demos and discussions will include how to use the pottery tools to your greatest advantage, introduce texture and design, and how to push the limitations of the clay. This course is great for any skill level from brand new to clay to the intermediate student. Materials fee will be use to provide tools for specific projects.

Required tools include:

-        Basic tool kit

-        Brushes - assorted sizes/ thicknesses

-        Notebook/ sketch pad

Suggested/ recommended tools:

-        Potter’s Blade or fettling knife – great for slab work and handbuilding

-        Mud tool Ribs – Come in various firmness and shapes. Yellow and Green are recommended.

-        Serrated Metal Rib – Make scoring texture with a couple quick swipes.

-        Rubber tip tools – Help clean up attachments from slipping and scoring.

-        Mud Tools’ white clean up sponge – another great tool to clean up attachments.

Attached Bench 12:30 - 2:00 pm. Plus one additional open bench period. 

Open Bench:Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays 12:30 - 3:00 pm
