Description

Hand Building Basics

Learn the fundamental skills to hand building with clay. Students will start with simple projects using pinch methods, coil building, and slab construction to build functional and sculptual objects before planning their projects independently. Demos and discussions will include how to use the pottery tools to your greatest advantage, introduce texture and design, and how to push the limitations of the clay. This course is great for any skill level. 

Required Tool Kit: Basic tool kit, Brushes in assorted sizes/thickness, notebook/sketchpad

Materials fee will be used to provide tools for specific projects including canvas, a GR form with foot cutter, and templates for forms.

Recommended Tools: Potter's blade or fettling knife (great for slab work and handbuilding), Mud Tool Ribs (come in various firmness and shapes, yellow and green are recommended), Serrated Metal Rib (used for scoring), Mud Tools' White Clean up Sponge (a great tool to clean up attachments) 

Attached Bench 12:30 - 2:00 pm. Plus one additional open bench period. 

Open Bench: Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday 12:30 - 3:00 pm
