Description

Metal clay is a clay-like substance composed of powdered metal in an organic binder.  When fired, the organic binder burns off leaving pure metal.  It is fun and easy to work with.  The students will learn the basics of working with metal clay and concentrate on flat forms such as earrings and pendants.

Sterling silver clay (EZ .960) will be used which has a low shrinkage rate and a longer working time.  It takes textures well and can be finished with a high (tumbled)shine or a variety of patine effects.  The metal clay packets contain 25grams (silver weight) of clay which is enough to make several pairs of earrings or pendants, depending on size.

ear wires, jump rings and chains will be available for purchase to finish your work or you can bring you own.

Materials fee and tool kit: $96

Students should bring to class a notebook, pencil, ideas and curiosity.  Also bring anything you would like to use as a texture.
